New Jersey American Water will be doing the final restorations of South Street from Springfield Avenue to Central Avenue, weather permitting, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, and Monday, April 21, 2025. New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of the milling and paving.
• On Saturday, April 19th, milling operations will begin at 4:00 am and continue through the day. You will be permitted to drive into and out of the closed area, however, you may be required to detour a specific route or wait for short periods to allow the milling operation to move past your street/driveway.
• On Monday, April 21st, no vehicles will be allowed in or out of the area once the tack (tar) is placed on the roadway and until the asphalt has had time to harden. All vehicles should be removed from the area by Monday morning, no later than 6:00 am, to be safe. Paving operations will start around 6:00 am on Monday, April 21st. While we understand that the paving may not begin near your home/business, we cannot guarantee when the contractor will be in your area.
In 2024, NJAW replaced approximately 3,200 feet of aging water main along South Street. This $3.2 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in New Providence. This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.
