A possible strike against NJ TRANSIT by members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen could impact rail service as early as 12:01 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025. If the strike proceeds, it will result in a full shutdown of NJ TRANSIT rail service.

In advance of such a stoppage, NJ TRANSIT has developed a contingency plan that would accommodate an extremely limited number of rail customers. Regularly scheduled NJ TRANSIT Bus, Light Rail, and Access Link will be operated during any rail stoppage and enhanced where possible to support displaced rail customers.

NJ TRANSIT strongly encourages all those who can work from home to do so and limit traveling on the NJ TRANSIT system to essential purposes only.

The River Line Light Rail will not be impacted. The only service in South Jersey that will be affected is the Atlantic City Rail Line.  Please note that the Northeast Corridor—which connects to the River Line at Trenton Transit Center—will also be affected.

With the possibility of a NJ Transit strike starting this week on Friday, May 16, the City of Summit Parking Services Agency is sharing information on some of the alternate commuting options from Summit to NYC:

-Park & Ride Lot #15 – We offer 105 spaces, first come first serve, at a rate of $3.00/day. This is for the Lakeland bus service to NYC; more info at lakelandbus.com.

-Boxcar offers their service out of Summit; users can make a reservation through their app. More info at boxcar.com.

More information can be found on the NJ Transit website.
