Firearms Purchase and Permitting

The New Providence Police Department does not distribute paperwork related to any firearms applications. The State of New Jersey has developed an online portal for all processing called the New Jersey Firearms Application and Registration System (NJ FARS).  Applicants must apply via the NJ FARS links below.  When prompted for the Originating Agency Identifier (ORI), the New Providence Police Department's number is NJ0201100 and is to be used by New Providence residents only.  If your application requires you to be fingerprinted, please schedule an appointment with Identogo.

• Applicants for NJ Handgun Permits and Firearms ID cards should submit and process their applications via the Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and/or Handgun Purchase Permit (njportal.com).
• Applicants for NJ Concealed Carry Permits should submit and process their applications via Concealed Carry Permits (njportal.com).  Also see CCARE process below.
